Seriously, how many different ingredients do you have to add to make good bread crumbs? There should be more like 2: bread and crumbs. (ha ha)
Anyways, I have been playing around with this next recipe for a while and finally had a break through or what I like to call "website worthy" result. It's superb tasting and very versatile. It doesn't get as crispy as a normal bread crumbs but you can use it to coat a variety of different foods and use it in recipes that call for bread crumbs. (We just used it in another recipe tonight that I'll post soon.) It's got a little bit of everything in it but, trust me, it's worth it!
Created by jalene
- 1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp Corn Meal
- 1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp Raw Whole Almonds
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp dried marjoram
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp dried rosemary
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/4 tsp sage powder
- fresh ground pepper, to taste
- Place everything into a blender. Pulse or blend until almonds are chopped into tiny crumbs.
Tips from jalene:
If you don't have all of those spices listed above you could use for spice 2 Tbsp of Italian Seasoning, the salt, and paprika.
I coat my food with a beaten egg first, dip it in the bread crumbs, and then spray with my olive oil mister. It gives it a beautiful, just-like-bread-crumbs look!
